1. Prelinguistic skills and language (1-3 years and older)
• Copying actions, like pointing, rubbing your tummy for “hungry”, or a head shake and nod for no and yes.
• Copying early symbolic sounds (“mmm” for “yummy” and different emotions/thoughts such as “hmm” for “I wonder”, or “mm-mm” for “no”).
• Establishing the early core word and/or sign “more”.
• Understanding instructions on a one-word level (e.g. “where is the mop?”).
• Expanding expressive sentence length to two + words as appropriate for your child. (e.g. “No more.”; “More milk.”; “Tommy wants more.”; “Tommy/he wants the milkshake.” etc)
2. Speech Skills – there is lots of opportunity for repetition on each page to get those drills in.
• Practice consistent production of “mm” and getting little lips together for children with poor lip closure in conjunction with oral-motor therapy.
• Practice “m” in simple CV, VC, CVC, CVCV combinations such as “um; more, mop, yummy” etc. (C = Consonant; V = Vowel)
• Practice “mm” with different prosody/inflection to mean different things, such as rising question-like prosody as in “meatball?”; “hamburger?” (Helpful for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech struggling with prosody).
So there you have it, Tommy eats a lot and says a lot! Change up the script to suit your kiddos!

- Early Intervention (1-3, or older if there are delays)
• Copying actions, such as pointing, reaching, or the sign for aeroplane. Copying facial expressions such as a sad or happy face with matching voice.
• Copying exclamatory sounds (“aah!”, “aaha!”). “Aah” is such a wonderful, versatile sound that can mean so many things, and is usually easy for little ones to say.
• Copying and learning symbolic sounds which represent real things (“aah” for “aeroplane”). This helps your child express their thoughts (i.e. you know they mean aeroplane when they say “aah”). Symbolic or representational sounds are a great bridge to get to “real” words.
• Understanding of objects and words, and simple problem solving, e.g. “Where is the chair?”; and “What does Bobby need to reach his plane?”
• This is also a short little story to accommodate children with short attention spans. - Speech Skills (particularly for children with limited and/or inconsistent vowels).
• There are numerous opportunities throughout the story to practice consistent, correct production of “aah”.
• Children who struggle to use prosody (different inflections/intonation to mean different things, e.g. ”Pizza” vs “Pizza!”, vs “Pizza?”) can practice using prosody in the simplest form – just with one sound (aah), said with different pitches/inflections/ loudness etc, (and then moving on to more complex utterances, but here’s a really nice starting point!) - Helping children enjoy stories and books
If you think your child “doesn’t like books” because they can’t sit through a story, then this deck may help your child become more interested in stories. Bobby’s story is short and sweet with interactive moving pieces that may help your child “stay with you” while you tell the story and do the actions together.

LEARN ABOUT SYLLABLES WITH BEATZ THE BEE
Price = 350 points ($3.50)
(Double deck with 1-3 syllables and 1-5 syllables)

Help Beatz the Bee say and count the “beats” (syllables) in words while he looks for his honey or home.
Counting syllables is also called “Syllabisation” and is one of the Phonological Awareness skills that children need to acquire for reading and writing. This deck is perfect for preschool, but also for children in grade/year 1, 2, and 3 who have not yet mastered this skill, which may then impact on their ability to read, write and spell longer multisyllabic words.
